AN ACCIDENTAL DEATH

Detective Sergeant Smith used to be an efficient member of the squad because of their past performance, the man also got a lot of fame in the department. For the past few years, he thinks that things are just not going in his favor and he is quickly losing all that he has worked so hard for in his life. His last mission was a mess and he had a lot of explaining to do in front of his superiors for that.

Since then the department wants Smith to retire because his services are no more required by the department. Many think that it was a good opportunity for Smith to retire but he decided to carry on with the job as he wants to prove that he is still capable of doing wonders. Along with his assistant, he takes on the case of Wayne Fletcher i.e a boy who was drowned near the countryside.

Almost everyone thought that it was an accident because such things happen now and then when the one jumping into the lake is not a good swimmer. For Smith, it was the case of murder and someone has tried to hide his crime in that way. Though the higher authorities were not in favor of the investigation Smith carried on with the case i.e making his life tougher.

Several people in the department try to stop the investigation and then some pretend to be too good. The author of the series Peter Grainger makes Smith go down first and then he provides the old detective a chance to regain the old glory. Gildart Jackson’s voice was quite appropriate for this book and though there were one or two pauses in the narration it didn’t damage the impression at all. Songbird and In This Bright Future are waiting for the fans of this story. Every weekend will be full of surprises if you decide to give this series some time.
