Dead In the Family

Dead in the Family is a New York Times Bestselling novel by Charlaine Harris. It was released in 2010 and is a gothic mystery novel. It is the tenth book in the series titled Southern Vampire Mysteries. The series depicts Sookie as she is dealing with more complicated relationships with the otherworldly creatures around her. Give other works from the author a serious consideration, like Dead Until Dark and Grave Surprise.

Johanna Parker is the narrator of this book. She has tried her best to lift the novel as she has always done. Unfortunately, this time, she is a little bit held back by the lackluster story. It’s still very good, but compared to the standard set by the series, it lacks some shine.

Sookie Stackhouse couldn’t be dealing with more problems. Her lover Eric’s ‘brother’ had to come into the situation at this time? Even her kin are demanding a place in her life. These are a non-human fairy and a telepathic cousin. Things couldn’t be worse. Furthermore, she has to track down a distant relation with her ailing neighbor.

What’s the deal with all these problems? Why not add another one. Sookie is asked by the werewolves of Shreveport for a special favor. Sookie, being the diligent and obliging person she is, agrees. Unfortunately, she doesn’t know that what’s ahead might prove fatal to her. She hasn’t even recovered from her abduction during the Fairy War.
It is a mildly entertaining story and Sookie fans will love it. However, it must be mentioned that the drop in quality is apparent. That could be attributed to the writer being too influenced by the fans’ demands. She also has HBO to deal with so that could have caused it all. Nonetheless, don’t let the slight criticism prevent you from reading this otherwise excellent book.
